Task 1: Augmented Reality Technology Enhance Creativity
Updated: Mar 5, 2023

According to the Australian Curriculum(version 8.4), Creative thinking involves a learner’s thinking and learning to generate and apply new ideas in specific contexts, seeing existing situations in a novel way, identifying alternative explanations, and producing connections with a positive outcome. Creativity is generally believed to be one of the students' essential skills nowadays. (Li,2016). As future educators, we kept looking for new technologies to combine the practice in a real classroom to foster students’ creativity. Fortunately, emerging technologies have altered the learning environment, and technology-rich environments provide opportunities for teachers to use digital technologies or tools to spirit learners’ creative thinking. (Henriksen et al., 2016).
Augmented Reality technology is an emerging technology that integrates the consumer’s environment and the digital resource and allows users to interact with virtual objects in the real world. The educator can promote and support creativity with emerging technology.

Firstly, through Augmented reality interfaces, learners can effortlessly navigate and engage with both the real and virtual worlds. That allows students to experiment with different materials, colours or shapes wherever they are and explore new ideas in an immersive and engaging way. (Shown in the below graph).

Another advantage point is that creative thinking is achievable by all children, regardless of their academic attainment (Wheeler, 2022) Augmented reality providing opportunities for all children to succeed is the key to combining individual strengths and abilities. For example, an art teacher can use augmented reality technology to allow students to design architecture in the future, and the tasks can be completed through collaborative group activities or individual study-based. The activity allows children to develop their creative thinking as they attempt to present their imagination with the new technology.
Secondly, Augmented reality can also provide students with new and innovative ways of learning, which can further enhance their creativity. For example, in Biology class, the teacher can explain the DNA’s conception using Augmented reality to visualize the abstract conception. This can assist in making learning more engaging and interactive and can also help to improve students’ understanding of the subject content.
However, there is still a disadvantage to exploiting Augmented Reality technology in the classroom. For example, AR can be engaging and exciting for students, but it can also be distracting. Students may become more interested in the AR experience itself than in the content they are supposed to be learning.
In conclusion, emerging technology can complement those traditional approaches to a rich learning environment even though there are some particular practical ways that need to improve and reach an ideal situation to foster creativity.

Hey, wishing you best of luck in advance for your assignment. I found your task so interesting, logical and informative too because the way you explained the concept is really appreciable. You have properly explained the role of augmented reality in the context and also the implications of it over education.

A contemporary piece of technology has been identified and a clear definition of creativity in the classroom in relation to your chosen technology. Originality was evident, and good use of personal video in the blog post. Smooth transitions with information and video/audio however, the DNA image should be referenced as an image, not as a graph, this was confusing as a reader. There was clear evidence of advantages and disadvantages. One thing I did notice was that the structure of the information provided was similar to that of an essay. Your blog site and the post was easy to navigate and access, with clear referencing.
Areas of improvement would be your community engagement. Commenting on your own work and one…
Hello Xin Li,
First I really enjoyed how you set up your blog, it was so easy to find all your information and I loved watching the videos. I really liked how your provided links from the Australian curriculum. It was very helpful as it can state how to use this technology in a classroom. Your definition was very descriptive and clear. Also I enjoyed reading how to foster creativity. You provided great pros and cons. However, I think adding an example of an activity would really benefit the readers to see how to use this technology in a classroom environment.
Great job!

You've very clearly thought through both the pros and cons of AR in the classroom environment; the idea of using it for a biology lesson is really cool and something I would not have thought of.
That being said, I think the technology that you are discussing in this article leans more towards VR than AR.
Definitely excited to see the future of AR/VR in Australian classrooms; what a cool tool to use to enhance creativity!
